THE NORWEGIAN CHAMBER ORCHESTRA THROUGH 40 YEARS
A world premiere with inspiration from the madhouse.
The Norwegian Chamber Orchestra continues its 40th anniversary celebrations in Logen Theatre with a programme presenting an orchestra in constant development.
Total musical madness is the theme of the second concert of the evening. Music and words paint a historical picture of a time we can be glad is past. In the seventeenth century there was a fascination with the abnormal, and the bourgeois spectators paid to watch the occupants of mental asylums such as London’s infamous Bedlam. Composers capitalised on this public fascination in their musical themes. Georg Philip Telemann’s tells the story of Don Quixote’s attack on the windmills. Alongside Peter Maxwell Davies's work Eight Songs for a Mad King the description of madness covers a perspective of over several hundred years.
The Chamber Orchestra also performs Bach’s double concerto for two violins in D minor, with Terje Tønnesen and Daniel Bard as soloists.
