About
The big Norwegian surprise at Roskilde Festival 2024 was the inclusion of the underground folk-punk group Sliteneliten on the lineup. Armed with a fiddle, flute, and a ramshackle rhythm section, they’ve made it their mission to tour far and wide, preaching and spreading their leftist message through politically charged lyrics wrapped in a variety of genres.
Neither market forces nor cultural gatekeepers asked for six outspoken women to pick up instruments—some for the very first time—and create what can best be described as half band, half political project.
And yet, six years later, Sliteneliten has released two albums and played over 60 shows, most of them to hundreds of enthusiastic fans. Their gig list is long and inspiring, including performances at protest camps for Førdefjorden and Repparfjorden, underground festivals like Eat the Rich, Sweden's Urkult, Fjellparkfestivalen, and Karlsøyfestivalen, as well as Oslo Pride. They also embarked on a 10-day spring tour, selling out the legendary venue BLÅ in Oslo. And in the summer of 2024, they graced the stage at none other than Roskilde Festival.
Influenced by bands like The Raincoats, Norwegian folk legends Amtmandens Døtre, and punk cult favorites Kjøtt, Sliteneliten is anything but stuck in the past. They represent the sound of young adults in 2024 that is delivered a broken world and told that change is impossible. Sliteneliten refuses to accept that. With maximalism, captivating stage presence, hope, warmth, and joy, they’re living proof that another world is possible.
