About
Riksteatret is the national touring theater of Norway. The theater's goal is to ensure that everyone in Norway, regardless of where they live, has access to high-quality performing arts.
Riksteatret was established by law right after World War II as part of the cultural reconstruction of Norway. The first tour began in Finnmark in 1949, a county that was severely affected by the war.
Riksteatret aims to be a theater for everyone and annually sends out 10-12 productions across Norway. They perform one day at each location, six days a week, for 150,000 to 200,000 spectators.
The theater performs in places that are so far apart they might as well be in different European countries. Therefore, Riksteatret must tell stories that can unite us, transcending our differences with stories everyone can relate to. It is crucial for Riksteatret to always present the very best. The audience should be confident that when Riksteatret comes to town, they will experience world-class performances.
