By blending traditional black metal with opulent symphonic orchestration, they became pioneers of their field. Their groundbreaking albums, such as Enthrone Darkness Triumphant and Spiritual Black Dimensions, making them incredibly influential.

The core songwriting team of DIMMU BORGIR consists of vocalist Shagrath and guitarists Silenoz and Galder, the drummer Daray, keyboardist Gerlioz, and choral arranger Gaute Storaas, who worked with the Schola Cantrum Choir.
