Chan Marshall, kvinnen bak Cat Power, er en talentfull sanger og låtskriver. I tillegg til å ha originalt materiale som er ansett som klassikere, er hun også dyktig til å tolke andres låter på sitt kreative vis samtidig som hun ivaretar sangens identitet.

Påvirket av New Yorks undergrunns scene, ga Cat Power ut album som "What Would the Community Think", som viste frem hennes sårbarhet og talent. Med tiden blandet hun inn folk, blues og soul i hennes senere låtslipp og coverlåter.

Hennes nyeste prosjekt var en tribute til Bob Dylan med livealbummet «Cat Power Sings Dylan: The 1966 Royal Albert Hall Concert». Etter å ha imponert USA har Cat Power tatt med prosjektet videre på turne til Europa.
